I understand that their motivation is to suppress opposition. What im saying is that banning tiktok wont have that effect, but the opposite. Im saying the opposition will actually benefit from moving to a different, more neutral platform in response to this ban.

Yeah that makes sense that those would break. Its quite aggressive, but most standard smd components dont care. Its even kind of a good QC test in my experience, because if anything wasnt attached properly it will get detached in there.

As long as it only pulls data and doesnt share any its not as bad. But each of these local services most likely use different APIs and formats, so implementing it wont be so easy. For just large highways its realistic imo, but if you want data for inside cities it becomes impossible.
If the database of traffic info become so large that it’s impossible to download it all at once it means you have to selectively download data for your location/route which makes it possible to infer user location again.

The organic team doesnt wanna deal with collecting user data so they wont do it. Getting live location data from millions of people basically requires using and feeding into google services and thats a no go.
Ofcourse someone else could do it, but thats just a waste of time, if google can cut you off from their API at any point.
Even if you start your own project, no matter what you do, there will always have to be some company that collects all the data. That company no matter how cool and FOSS will eventually be forced to cooperate with law enforcement and then you are back to what we have now with google.
Location data is just too sensitive and impossible to anonymize properly.

Its also a really great base project to build on top of. The routing system is a plug in library which can be easily replaced. That means if someone wants to build something that collects and utilizes live data for traffic/construction avoidance they can totally do that. Adding new map layers is also a big one that they made sure is going to be easy to do.
With tiled roofs its honestly not so bad. As long as the installation hooks and overall kit you have is good ofcourse. It took me and my friend like 2-3 days of hopping around on the roof with little prior experience. Before we closed it up we had someone professional attest it which cost a tiny fraction of what letting them install it would have cost.
But i generally agree, there are lots of shitty companies for both equipment and installation that just rip you off.

“Current” are the numbers from 2004, anticipated is probably realistic for what we have now. This calculation is not for private installations tho, because those get much less money for each kWh. With huge scale commercial installations 2-3 years is probably realistic. For private installations its still like 10 years for it to pay back its cost. Depends heavily on you local weather and electricity buy/sell prices ofcourse.
You could have totally built small scale water and wind power a few decades ago. Also solar was already viable 15 years ago and would have been cheap af if it had been scaled up to “economy of scale” levels. For example Germanies solar capacity was already at 1/5th of todays level 15 years ago. That was without any huge subsidies and the panels and feed in returns were not great either. We could have easily been at todays level in terms of solar 10-15 years ago if the lobby for it was as powerful as the coal/gas/nuclear lobby.
You cant remove that double negative without making it incorrect. Its specifically about laws that prevent you from mitigating or bypassing enshittified parts of already enshittified platforms.
