At least we have something to be happy about in this hellscape.
At least we have something to be happy about in this hellscape.
At the end of the day, the future is written by human beings, and unless we have a collective vision of where we are trying to go, the darker forces among us will take control and do as they wish with us.
Despite him being a tech bro and everything, I do think we need more shows like Star Trek these days to show us what a functional future with technology could look like. I think the only examples we see any more in popular culture are dystopian, and I think we are starting to believe that those are the only possible outcomes of the path we are on. Even Star Trek these days is pretty dark.
We need to again try to imagine a world in which the better half of humanity succeeds.
^ This is the most accurate explanation. I was on .ml for quite a while before I realized the pattern that any time I criticized Russian attacks or war crimes, I got downvoted and brigaded. Any time I promoted Ukraines right to defend itself I got downvoted and brigaded. Often my posts were removed. Try to mention tienamen square there ;-). They will come troll threads on other instances from time to time too. I just block them these days and refuse to subscribe to any .ml communities.
I was a Unix sysadmin for years and never once used the num pad. I’m in sales now for 25 years and still don’t use it. I mean, it’s always been a goal of mine but I just never think of it when it’s time to use it, and it’s slower for me to use it than not use it. And I don’t enter enough numbers to get enough practice to be good at it.
We just don’t work as accountants ;-).
I’m a full TKL man myself. I don’t mind the space, just don’t like using space for stuff I never use.
I spent 30 years thinking someday I’d start using the number pad and then finally gave up. I like having the typing part centered more.
I’m psyched. Less work for me!
