I get that this is huge for them personally to have gotten this done, but it reads a bit silly to see basic features like commenting and playlists being described in such a hyped up way

Glad to hear they have playlists working now. Playlists might seem basic, but it’s a big deal for Peertube. To have at least some users selected Peertube content to watch or rewatch. and I the user can’t say there is nothing on Peertube to watch.
